New Poll, Photos, Movies, and Mankala's Big Adventure
New poll is up for everyone to share, "Why I love Savannah cats.". If you have any ideas for poll questions, please email through the AJSavannahs site or leave as a comment. We've run at least 18 polls and are running out of questions!
Kboo's F2B kittens Harvey and Elwood are walking and talking, mostly talking to their mom... not us. Except that Elwood greets me with a sweet little half mew/half chirp when he first sees me. Harvey blinks sleepily, then heads for the milk bar. They're both growing, Harvey hit the one pound mark at only 13 days of age. They're 18 days old today and Harvey weighs one pound five ounces, while Elwood weighs 15 ounces. Elwood is actually growing at a greater rate than Harvey.
Liberty, Ellie and Meica were all spayed within the last 10 days. They're already recovered and worrying us with their flying squirrel antics in the nursery. I have new movies, taken Sunday, just haven't had time to publish yet. I do have all new photos of all six kittens on our Kittens page, in a very large slideshow that should load very, very fast. I'm testing a new service for a marketing client and AJSavannahs visitors get the benefit of the Beta. Will be replaced with one of our AJSavannahs YouTube videos when the testing ends. Will also add to our AJSavannahs Movies Blog later tonight.
Jason wore out playing with everyone, too... and it looks like he's been taken down by a small pride, the way they're circling him. He was drumming his fingers on the floor to get their attention, and it worked.
Dale is only six months old but already larger than a typical domestic cat. He loves to stand on us -- he's on Jason's back in this photo -- or sleep on my back. He also enjoys being hung upside down like a sloth:
Meica was grumbling at the strange noises Jason was making, she is very servally in her nature. Her spots are absolutely huge and she has beautiful overall type.
Calla and Liberty were plotting together, as usual.
Ellie (front) kept watch from the castle before she moved in close to lay by Jason's head.
Tessa was at Jason's feet, working her way up to ambush Dale while he was preoccupied with the noise.
Tessa loves to cuddle and be held; she also loves to take my hand in her mouth and drag me wherever she wants me. She doesn't do that with Jason, she just snuggles.
Calla and Liberty are great friends, as our two youngest F2B kittens, they tend to gang up on the F3B kittens even though they're smaller. Liberty will not quit playing and will almost drop in her tracks when she finally winds down. She loves the coolness of the tile and decided to stay close and keep Jason all to herself.
Calla wears out, but she's not as hot-natured as Liberty, so Calla comes over and crawls in my lap when she's taking a break from playing. She has her mother's sweet face and love of speed! Calla catches the racquetball by bounding and bouncing with it, then she traps it in her front feet and slides the last yard to a complete stop. Then bats the ball to us and does it over again.
Liberty will go home to Sacramento the end of the month, Calla will travel to Virginia Beach a few weeks later. Each girl will have other cats to play with, or they'd be lost, they've bonded that closely.
Now for Mankala's big adventure!
Mankala is our very first Savannah, an F2B, she proved to be sterile and retired a few years ago to rule over our home and even bosses our much, much larger F1 Savannahs. Mankala is rotten, she's Jason's baby and lays on her back in his lap at every meal. No one else enjoys the same privilege, but in all fairness, the F1s would be more interested in his food than in reclining comfortably--
While our larger nursery remodel is done, our library is still torn apart after our recent a/c replacement. I left the library door open, Mankala made a dash and beat me up the stairs in spite of her tubby little tummy and definite disadvantage. And in spite of her girth, the little (?) monster managed to go under the sub-floor before I could grab her.
I yelled for Jason, then he yelled at me for leaving the door open, while Mankala looked over her shoulder and yelled at both of us before disappearing into the recesses of the unfinished attic.
That fat little cat can move when she wants to.
Jason chased her from one end of the house to the other, managing to NOT step off the beams and through the drywall, and finally cornered her with squirt bottle and unveiled threats as to her fate if she didn't quit running. I really don't think she was listening to him. I think she was worn out from all the exercise.
Which was a good thing because she needed a bath after barreling through all the insulation and we needed her tired to give us every advantage we could get for our bathe-Mankala adventure.
She is sleeping happily on our antique fainting couch, none-the-worse for wear and Jason is working on the library again. I couldn't have planned it better myself!!!
